Lineage


Tulsi began learning dance at the age of eight, from Shanta and V.P. Dhananjayan. She has been their student for over 30 years now and continues to learn from them with the result that she has an extensive repertoire. In her many solo performances all over India and abroad, Tulsi has earned the admiration of her audience and the praise of critics for her deeply felt bhava and her dynamic nritta. Her long association with her Acharya Dhananjayan, famous for his moving abhinaya, and Acharya Shanta, known for her precise nritta, has led to a polished technique. She has given various lecture - demonstrations and written dance criticism for The Hindu, apart from having taught many students at Bharata Kalanjali, the dance academy run by her Acharya-s. Tulsi has written a book on male dancers titled Master of Arts - A Life in Dance.
